Moscow says hopes Seoul realizes bad oil price cap consequences

MOSCOW, Sep 7 (PRIME) -- The U.S. wants Seoul to join the price limits on Russian oil, but Moscow hopes that South Korea will not create problems for itself, head of the First Department for Asia of the Foreign Ministry Georgy Zinovyev told PRIME on Wednesday.

"We are aware of Washington's attempts to take Seoul into a cartel of buyers of Russian oil, which as the U.S. thinks will be able to set the price limit for oil. Seoul’s joining the initiative will result in grave negative consequences, first of all, for the economy of the Republic of Korea," Zinovyev said.

Russia wants to minimize the damage from sanctions imposed by the U.S. in relations with South Korea, the official said.
